Once Human is one of those games that is hard to explain in a single sentence, and that is exactly why it sticks with you. It is a free-to-play, open-world multiplayer survival game from Starry Studio, a NetEase subsidiary, set in the Stardust-contaminated wasteland of Nalcott. You play as a Meta-Human — someone who can survive contact with Stardust — scavenging, crafting, building a territory, and fighting mutated creatures called Deviations.

What makes it exciting is not just the shooting or the survival loop. It is the weirdness of the world itself. Deviations are not only enemies to fight; they can be captured and put to work, guarding your base, farming your crops, or fighting beside you. Your territory can be built almost anywhere and moved when you need a fresh start. Seasonal scenarios keep changing the rules, from PvE-focused runs to PvP territory fights, so a new season never quite feels like the last one.

The game has also never been easier to jump into. Once Human launched on PC on July 9, 2024, came to iOS and Android on April 23, 2025, and arrived on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on August 25, 2026, with cross-play and cross-progression. The ocean-focused Isles of Abyss scenario followed in October 2026, taking the survival loop out onto the water with shipbuilding, island exploration, and deep-sea threats.

A shout-out to The League

Games like this live or die on their communities, and I want to give a proper shout-out to a group that proved that point to me firsthand: The League.

The League welcomed me into their Once Human community with amazing hospitality, and their leading figures deserve the credit by name: TT-OMG.Lexieee, GrandMaster Avatar Roku, Goddess_Here, vivvxen, Riee, and Lord Rimuru.

That kind of welcome is what turns a big, strange, sometimes brutal survival game into somewhere you actually want to log back into. New players get guidance instead of being left to figure everything out alone, squads get stronger because people look out for each other, and the world feels alive in a way no solo run can match.

So if you have been curious about Once Human, this is your sign to try it — it costs nothing to start, and it plays on PC, mobile, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. And if you run into The League out there in Nalcott, tell them Bycozi sent you.
