The new trailer for Witch on the Holy Night is out, and it puts the film’s theme song front and center. Crunchyroll began streaming the trailer on October 27, 2026, previewing supercell’s “Yoru to Ao” (Night and Blue) over new footage from the ufotable film. It is the clearest look yet at the movie’s late-1980s setting and its central trio.

The film is directed by Masaru Takeuchi, with ufotable handling production, and is based on the TYPE-MOON visual novel by Kinoko Nasu. Haruka Tomatsu, Kana Hanazawa, and Yusuke Kobayashi return as Aoko Aozaki, Alice Kuonji, and Soujyuro Sizuki.

The story follows Aoko, an ordinary high school girl who is secretly an apprentice Magician, living alongside her housemate Alice as she works toward becoming a full-fledged Magician — until a boy enters her life and everything begins to change.

The release plan is now locked on both sides of the Pacific. The film opens in Japan on November 20, 2026, the same day the original visual novel’s smartphone version launches. Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment will release it in theaters across the U.S. and Canada on January 29, 2027, in Japanese with English subtitles and with an English dub.

For ufotable fans, this is the studio’s next major feature after its Demon Slayer run — and the trailer makes the case that its signature polish is fully intact. Source: Animation Magazine / Anime News Network, via Crunchyroll’s trailer release.
