Esu Omori’s supernatural comedy Shiba Inu Rooms is getting a television anime. Wright Film announced the adaptation on Sunday, November 1, with the series set to debut in summer 2027.
The timing was no accident. The staff noted that November 1 is “Wan Wan Wan Day” in Japan — “wan” being the sound of a dog barking in Japanese — making it the perfect date to announce a series built around a ghostly Shiba Inu.
The story follows high schooler Kori Momose, who moves into a new apartment only to discover it is haunted by Mu, a Shiba Inu ghost. As Viz Media, which licenses the manga in English, puts it: like fire and ice, Kori and Mu are at odds — and the question is whether the two can learn to co-exist, and even become friends.
The anime’s lead cast is already confirmed. Niina Nakabayashi will voice Kori Momose, and Mutsumi Tamura will voice Mu. Behind the scenes, Osamu Yamasaki is directing the series at TMS Entertainment, with Rio — known for work on trapezium and Sorcerous Stabber Orphen: Chaos in Urbanrama — designing the characters. An announcement teaser accompanied the news.
For readers who want to catch up before the premiere, the manga is easy to find. It began as a one-shot in 2023 before launching as a serialization on Shonen Jump+ in June 2024, and it is available digitally in English on the MANGA Plus app. Viz Media licensed it for digital release in January 2025 and shipped its first volume in print on September 1. Shueisha will publish the manga’s ninth volume on November 4.
What is not yet known is just as important as what is. No exact premiere date, broadcast details, episode count, or international streaming partner has been announced yet — only the summer 2027 window. Expect those details, along with any additional cast announcements, to follow as production continues.
