A new report suggests Solo Leveling Season 3 as a TV anime could be scrapped — in favor of theatrical releases.

According to the report, Aniplex and A-1 Pictures may pivot the Solo Leveling anime to films, starting with the already-announced Beyond the System movie, set for 2027, followed by more theatrical releases. The movie sends Sung Jinwoo back to the Double Dungeon — where it all began.

If true, it would be a major format shift. Solo Leveling’s first two TV seasons were among the biggest streaming hits of the decade, turning Sung Jinwoo into a mainstream anime icon. The move mirrors what Demon Slayer did with Mugen Train — betting that the franchise is big enough to anchor box office rather than episode drops.

Fans are split on the idea. A movie treatment means bigger budgets and better animation per minute — but it also means waiting far longer between releases than a weekly season would.

Neither Aniplex nor A-1 Pictures has confirmed the report, so treat this as a rumor for now — though with the Beyond the System film already dated for 2027, a theatrical future for the franchise looks increasingly likely either way.

Season 3 as a TV anime or the full movie treatment — which would you prefer?
